How much of a shot you can specify first
This column splits the field into tools you describe a shot to and tools you hand a shot list. Seven entries sit at two, where the published interface is a text box; two sit at five, where a structured, editable shot description is part of the documented flow. As of 2026-09-12.

Inclusion rule. Tools rated on this rubric: a public English product page addressing at least four of the seven criteria. A tool the vendor documents too thinly to rate is left out rather than rated low. Order. Descending on this criterion, then alphabetical; unrated last.
1Two products wearing the same category label
The bimodal shape here is the clearest signal on the rubric. A prompt box and a consumable shot list are not two levels of the same feature; they are different products with different working methods, and the rating spreads them apart rather than averaging them together.
Neither is better in the abstract. A prompt box is faster for one shot and unmanageable for two hundred; a shot list is the reverse.
2What earns the top of this column
Five requires the shot description to exist as an object: editable before rendering, re-runnable after a change, and consumed by the generator as written. That is what makes a revision cheap, because the operator edits the description rather than rewriting a prompt and hoping.
It is also what makes a production auditable. A shot list that survives is a record of what was asked for, which matters when a delivered episode has to be explained six months later.
3The middle band, and what it usually is
Entries at three typically publish camera or motion controls layered on a prompt: a named move, a duration, sometimes a start frame. Useful, and still per-shot rather than per-sequence, so the operator is back in the box for the next one.
4What a structured description is worth at scale
The value shows up on the second pass, not the first. A shot described as an object can be changed in one place and re-run; a shot described in a prompt has to be rebuilt from memory, and the memory is usually somebody else's. Across an episode that difference is hours; across a season it is the difference between revising and regenerating.
It also decides what can be handed over. A production changing operators mid-season keeps its look only if the descriptions travel, which requires them to exist as something other than chat history.
5Why this column and picture quality rarely agree
Several entries rated five on picture quality sit at two here, and that combination is the most common on the whole table. Strong generation with no structured control is the default shape of this market; tools that invert it are the exception and read as slower until the shot count rises.
Anyone choosing on picture quality alone should look at this column second, because it decides how many attempts the picture quality gets spent on.
6Cells in this column with a page of their own
Values in this column held by at most two of the rated tools, each read against the rule above: SceneMixer, shot control, LTX Studio, shot control, Morph Studio, shot control, Pika, shot control. The crowded middle of a column gets no entry, because a value seven tools share describes the field rather than any one product.
Ratings describe what each vendor publishes, read 2026-09-12, and are given under the rule on how scoring works. All seven criteria together are on the ratings table. Next: Picture quality, Sound.
