An allowance is a quota, and a quota is not a rate
An allowance is a quota that resets. It tells a buyer how much may be generated this month and not what a second costs, because the same quota buys different amounts of finished picture depending on which model and which resolution consume it. As of 2026-09-12.
| Channel | What the allowance is counted in | What the page says happens to what is left |
|---|---|---|
| Runway | Credits, with a separate purchased-credit balance | Two plans reset near the billing date; the third carries up to a month |
| invideo AI | Credits, by plan | Stated in one sentence: nothing rolls over |
| Kling AI | Units on a developer package | 180-day validity, with no rollover and no extension |
| Pika | Credits, by plan | A feature line on every paid plan says purchased credits roll over |
| SceneMixer | Credits added to the balance each month | They spend like purchased credits; cancelling ends renewal at the period end |
| Luma | Credits, by plan and by model | Not addressed on the page read |
| Morph Studio | Credits, by plan | The question is listed on the page and the answer is not in the text |
Inclusion rule. Channels attaching a recurring quantity of credits or units to a plan or package. A channel selling credits only as one-off packs has no allowance and is not listed. Order. Channels whose own page settles what happens at the reset first; those leaving it open, last.
1A quota answers a different question from a rate
Read as a budget, an allowance works and works quickly: a team that knows its monthly volume can settle on a plan from one page in a minute. Read as a price, it falls apart, because the conversion depends on what that team chooses to generate rather than on anything the vendor put in writing.
That is why the column stands apart from the plan price printed next to it. A plan figure with a stated allowance looks like two thirds of a rate and is nearer one third, and telling those apart is most of the work of deciding whether a channel belongs on the ledger or in the unpriced entries.
2What happens at the reset is a second unpublished number
Runway answers it per plan: two plans reset within a day of the billing date while the highest carries up to a month forward, and credits bought separately never lapse. invideo AI answers it in a single sentence. Kling AI's developer packages carry a fixed validity with neither rollover nor extension.
Morph Studio prints the question among its own common questions and the answer does not appear in the page text. Luma is silent either way. An allowance that evaporates is a materially different product from one that carries forward, and for a production whose output is uneven month to month that gap can exceed the gap between two rates.
3Allowances that behave like a balance instead
Not every allowance resets. SceneMixer states that monthly membership credits are added to the balance and spend exactly like purchased ones, with cancellation stopping renewal at the end of the paid period. That is an allowance by name and a top-up by behaviour, and it reaches a rate because the credit price is published on the same site.
Pika sits between the two, carrying a feature line on every paid plan saying purchased credits roll over. The pattern worth noticing is that rollover terms and credit prices are published by different sets of channels, so learning that an allowance survives the month still leaves nobody able to say what a second of it costs.

Every figure above is read from the vendor page linked in the ledger or in the unpriced entries, checked 2026-09-12. What makes a shape convertible at all is on the method page. The other shapes: Currency per second, Credits per second. All four: price shapes.
